Now I would call it “we had a reckless disregard for our choice”, because we got what we had wished. No more and no less. I would speak about that later.
The official procedure was divided into several steps, so we had to come to the office some more times. When we filled in the documents, opened the Bank account, paid our dues, received tickets, and so on.
We were always met by the same girl. She was kind of a bridge for us, kind of a connection with the upcoming trip. We wanted her to be not a friend, but at least a mentor. However, for her we were just stupid students, who also wanted their American dream to come true. Ones of thousands. It probably didn`t even cross her mind that it would be nice to teach us some useful tricks just a bit, to instill confidence, for example, in finding a second job.
Although a special meeting was especially planned for this occasion.
One winter evening, there was a meeting for such “green” inexperienced students as we were at some inconspicuous auditorium of some inconspicuous building. We were even given beautiful green T-shirts, with the name of the program, that we had to wear before boarding the plane.
We did not deny that we were still green. That’s why, we listened attentively to everything they were talking about. But they talked a lot, and the hall could have had better acoustics, so we could hardly hear at least a half. Maybe that’s why we all were given a package full of gifts from the sponsors, where we found lots of informational booklets and even a book? 🙂
Moreover, at the entrance we had thrown a piece of paper with our names and an assigned number for the free job-offer lottery. Aigul won it with number 22! Hooray! You know, this joy completely pushed out those fifty percent of the information we had heard! Because it all started so well, you see!
